View all articles by Stan SimmonsBut believe you me, you aren't alone if you've considered trying to wipe out your credit card debt without ever sending any payments to your card companies. But when you get right down to it, there actually is a way to make this happen. You may be shocked by the very simple, perfectly obvious solution to this problem. Drum roll please.... Simply refuse to pay your bills!
I said it would be easy. Most people are expecting a very different answer, of course, because they fully understand the consequences they will face if they ignore the bills from their unsecured credit cards. If you take the chance of eliminating your credit card debt by just not paying your bills, you will have violated the deal you made with your lender when you got your card, and you will face some unpleasant consequences, such as:
A credit rating that plummets to the lowest level.
The risk of being denied employment. After all, there are employers that would check your credit report.
Especially high interest rates on any credit cards you get in the future.
Refusal of service, such as from a cell phone company.
It should also be obvious that’s the wrong thing to do.
So if you choose to opt out of your debts by just not paying your bills, you can see how serious the outcome can be. Fortunately, there are a number of things you can to turn a complicated situation into something much more manageable. You'll be able to pay your debts, and you'll also be able to avoid the constant humiliation that deadbeats face on a daily basis.
The truth is, the majority of credit companies will be quite willing to work out a reasonable payment plan to help you pay down your credit card balance. However, such arrangements for payment plans are usually made through a third-party negotiator. There are numerous organizations that will act on your behalf with credit card companies; usually, both sides specialize in unsecured debt.
Such organizations tend to be non-profit, which means they won't charge you outlandish fees for their services. Their purpose is to offer a useful financial service to people in the community. So don't make the mistake of thinking you're the only person out there trying to find a practical way to eliminate your credit card debt.
Take some time to consider your options before you head down the deadbeat path, and contact one of these non-profit organizations to see how they can help you lower your credit card debt.
